Location - In the middle of Europe
The excellent transport connections for the economic location of Dortmund have a long tradition. Three interstate autobahns encompass the city; four others feed them from all points of the compass. The harbor has great prospects as a significant and environmentally sound transshipment center. Dortmund forms an important hub in the European rail network and for international airlines.
In Dortmund and the surrounding region it is possible to access over 9 million people within a radius of just 50 kilometers. This is comparable to the metropolises of Paris and London. Within 100 kilometers 18 million people live in this region with an excellent infrastructure.
Dortmund is the prime regional center for the Eastern Ruhr Region (PDF), the politico-economic region surrounding the cities of Dortmund, Hamm and the Unna District.
